Lime Lab offers coding and robotics camp in the summer in partnership with the Michigan Science Center and the Detroit Public Library. These are week-long intense learning by doing camps. No previous programming experience is required. Girls will learn the fundamentals of technology and programming in a guided, structured method. Once the basic conceptual building blocks of robotics, electrical circuits, sensors, and actuators are in place, participants will learn to code using the Arduino programming platform. The last part of the program involves girls thinking up their own independent project. They then bring their idea to life through coding and building it with the help of mentors and guides. One of the main objectives of this camp is to help girls become comfortable with programming. An additional objective is for them to develop a meta-perspective on how technology drives everything in our built environment. Most importantly, through the independent project at the end, we want the girls to feel confident as creators of technology.
These camps are free for girls from the Detroit area. Seats are limited and available on a first come first served basis. Though we have chosen to bear the cost of the program, any financial support will help us continue to expand our offerings. If you are a foundation or a corporation interested in supporting our work, please email us at contact@limelab.org.
