In this one day workshop offered in the Michigan Science Center in Detroit, middle and high school girls learnt how to assemble an obstacle avoiding car and get an in depth understanding of the main components. They then learnt how to program the computer (Arduino) that controls the car.
In this workshop we cover: – The hardware and software in autonomous vehicles – An understanding of how driver less cars work, Assemble the car – Program the Arduino controller – Test out our obstacle avoiding car.
One of our middle schooler participants had this to say in the post workshop survey:
I really loved how we learnt the bigger idea of how self driving cars work. I also enjoyed building the car myself and knowing why I was doing the things I was doing.
We are thankful to the Ford foundation for supporting the STEMinista Project.
